Before Anything Else, Education.
Our Story
BAE's Education was founded in 2020 by Briana A. Esquivel Diaz, then a graduate student at California State University, Sacramento, at a moment when families across the community desperately needed reliable, year-round care they could count on. Briana and a small group of colleagues saw firsthand the impact that disrupted, inconsistent education was having on children and families in Sacramento, and set out to build something different: a center that would never close its doors on the families who needed it most.
That mission hasn't changed. Today, BAE's Ed. is a locally owned and operated child development center in Sacramento, CA, serving working families, military families, and dual-language learners with the same promise we started with: before anything else, your child's education comes first.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create an educational program committed to providing a place where children are encouraged to be creative, innovative, and collaborative in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment, one where teachers maintain thoughtful records of observation and documentation to enhance learning opportunities for children 6 weeks through 13 years of age.
Our Vision
BAE's Education stands for Before Anything Else, Education, putting your child's educational needs first. Guided by current research on how young children learn in open-ended educational spaces, we foster a love of learning and encourage children to try new and exciting things in inviting environments built for exploration.
BAE's Ed. ensures an inclusive experience where children think critically and explore their interests in a nurturing setting, with a holistic approach to developing each child's social, physical, emotional, and intellectual abilities.
Our Philosophy & Approach
BAE's Ed. operates a Reggio Emilia–inspired, emergent curriculum grounded in constructivist learning theory and Vygotsky's sociocultural theory. We call our approach to teaching and learning the BAE's Ed. Inquiry Model™, built around an ongoing Inquiry Cycle that keeps every classroom responsive to the children in it.
Five commitments guide everything we do:
Children as protagonists.
Kids lead their own learning, asking the questions and pursuing the interests that drive each day's activities.
Teachers as researchers.
Our educators observe, document, and reflect rather than deliver a scripted program, adjusting in real time to what each child needs.
The environment as the "third teacher."
Classroom space, materials, and time are deliberately arranged to spark curiosity and invite exploration.
Learning made visible.
Documentation panels, photographs, children's own words, and work samples show families exactly how and what their child is learning, every week.
Families as partners.
Your knowledge of your child, and of your culture, shapes what happens in our classroom, not the other way around.
This approach was chosen intentionally for the community we serve: a diverse population of working Sacramento families, including families of color, low-income working families, military families, and dual-language learners.

How We Track Your Child's Growth
We use the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) alongside ongoing observation-based assessment to monitor each child's development.
Rather than a one-time snapshot, our assessments feed directly back into classroom planning through an assessment-to-curriculum feedback loop, so what we learn about your child continually shapes what happens in their classroom.
Daily documentation, photos, and family communication run through Brightwheel, giving you a real-time window into your child's day.

BAE's Education Center is a locally owned and operated, multicultural child development center in Sacramento, CA, serving children from 6 weeks to 13 years old.
We're proud to partner with county voucher and subsidy programs, the Child Action Alternative Payment (AP) program, and to offer dedicated support for military families as part of the Mather community. Before anything else, we're here to make sure every family we serve has an education partner they can count on, year-round.
